Not only that, but all directories leading up to the header file must
be searchable (i.e. executable) by the web server's user ID. I've seen
far too many users set their umask to something like 077, which is fine
if you're paranoid about security, but it just doesn't work well when
trying to set up publicly accessible stuff.

No, that won't work. The search_results_header attribute must contain
a file name, not the file's contents.
