Subject: [htdig] htsearch and virtual webservers

I'm using an Apache webserver (v 1.3.12) with many virtual webservers.
I want to install ht//Dig (v 3.1.5) as the default search engine on
these virtual webservers (running on a solaris 7 machine).
The following problem arises:
I'd like to have multiple databases (each virtual server has it's own
configuration file and database). The databases cannot be merged: quota
needs to be set for each virtual server.
When I run
/dir/www-1/cgi-bin/htsearch -c /dir/www-1/htdig/conf/htdig.conf
from the command line, everything works fine. I get various pages of
html output (or a 'No match found').
But when I run the same from my webbrowser (yes I have updated my
search.html page and included the -c conf file option) this doesn't
work. It gives me an error:
Unable to read word database file '/opt/local/htdig/db/db.words.db'
Did you run htmerge?
(/opt/local/htdig is the central htdig installation directory).
htsearch seems to accept the -c option:
usage: htsearch [-v][-d][-c configfile] [query_string]
This program is part of ht://Dig 3.1.5

program. Using more than 2 is probably only useful
for debugging purposes. The default verbose mode
gives a progress on what it is doing and where it is.
Use the specified configuration file instead on the
query_string A CGI-style query string can be given as a
argument, and is only used if the REQUEST_METHOD
variable is not set. If no query_string is given, and
REQUEST_METHOD is not set, htsearch will prompt for the
Can anybody point me to what I'm doing wrong ?
Thanks in advance.
