Giles, I really appreciate your help, but still no joy... still not finding
fstream.h file. ON a whim, I also tried putting the include path into
CXXFLAGS, i.e:

    % setenv CFLAGS "-O2"
    % setenv CXXFLAGS "-O2 -I/usr/local/include/g++"
    % setenv CPPFLAGS "-I/usr/local/include/g++"
    % ./configure --prefix=/usr/local

No good there, either.

Any more thoughts?
