I'm not sure exactly what package you need for 2.1 (I'm running 2.2),
but try to install one or more of the libg++272 libstdc++2.8
libstdc++2.9 packages. You may additionally need the -dev variants of
those packages.

If they are already installed you have another problem (and I don't know
what it is), but running "ldconfig -a" as root is always a safe bet.
