[htdig] 3.1.5 update drama

Installing 3.1.2 was not difficult. Installing 3.1.5 on top of 3.1.2 is
giving me real problems.

I'm using FreeBSD 2.7, running configure like this:

./configure --prefix=/usr/home/irons/apps/htdig-3.1.5 \
--with-bin_dir=/usr/home/irons/bin \
--with-config_dir=/usr/home/irons/apps/htdig-3.1.5/conf \
--with-common_dir=/usr/home/irons/apps/htdig-3.1.5/common \
--with-database_dir=/usr/home/irons/apps/htdig-3.1.5/rb_db \
--with-cgi-bin_dir=/usr/home/irons/public_html/cgi-bin \
--with-image_dir=/usr/home/irons/public_html/images \
--with-image_url_prefix=http://bumppo.net/images/ \
--with-search_dir=/usr/home/irons/public_html/search \

make, make install, everything falls into to the right place. Earlier I
had some path permissions problems which were preventing htsearch from
seeing the config files, but they're fixed. Now, when I try a search, I
get a page with no data returned.

I had not attempted running earlier versions of htsearch from the
command line, so I'm not exactly sure what to expect, but I thought I'd
give that a try:

cgi-bin(09:52:43): htsearch
Enter value for words: damn
DB2 problem...: /usr/home/irons/apps/htdig-3.1.5/common/synonyms.db: No
such file or directory
DB2 problem...: /usr/home/irons/apps/htdig-3.1.5/common/word2root.db: No
such file or directory
Content-type: text/html

<html><head><title>htsearch error</title></head>
<body bgcolor="#ffffff">
<h1>ht://Dig error</h1>
<p>htsearch detected an error. Please report this to the
webmaster of this site. The error message is:</p>
Unable to read word database file
Did you run htmerge?

I don't understand why it's looking at "/usr/home/irons/apps/htdig/db",
when that's the old default DB location, from 3.1.2. I also don't know
why it needs synonyms.db (and I don't know what word2root.db is), as
they're not part of my search algorithm and never have been.

When I run htsearch with -vvv, it gives me the same errors, then
complains of a segmentation fault and dumps core.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
