I see this with htdig 3.1.5 (and if I remember right, with earlier versions
as well):
$ make install
[...cut...]
Installing ht://Dig
Creating directories (if needed)...
Installing individual programs...
make[1]: Entering directory `/home/peter/bin/htdig/htdig-3.1.5/htfuzzy'
transform=s,x,x,
/usr/bin/install -c htfuzzy --exec-prefix=/home/peter/bin/htdig/bin/`echo htfuzzy | sed ''`
/usr/bin/install: unrecognized option `--exec-prefix=/home/peter/bin/htdig/bin/htfuzzy'
Try `/usr/bin/install --help' for more information.
make[1]: *** [install] Error 1
[...cut...]
And so it goes on for a while.
The box runs Debian 2.1.
