Just a WAG, but did you maybe exhaust the disk space on the partition
htmerge was using for its temp files? htmerge does use a lot of disk
space. If that is a possibility, you might want to retry it with the
TMPDIR environment variable set to a directory on a partition with lots
of extra space.
