I don't really understand your question. On the one hand, ht://Dig doesn't
have an arbitrary limit. On the other, performance is never constant, so
any increase in the number of pages *will* decrease speed. The question is
whether that decrease is noticeable.
Noticeable depends on what speed you're talking about (indexing, merging,
searching...) and what kind of hardware you're throwing at it. :-)
