pascal,

yes, i had the same problem (i think) when i upgrade to 3.1.2, which i
compiled on a brand-new ultrasparc with solaris 2.7 and libstdc++.

anyway, apparently the problem is a known peculiarity of libstdc++ on
solaris, such that the linker has some problems.

in any event, the way to solve your problem is to set the variable
LD_LIBRARY_PATH. when you're running any of the programs from the command
line, you can get away with (in tcsh) "setenv LD_LIBRARY_PATH
/usr/local/lib:/usr/lib" or whatever the analog is in other shells. i use
both directories in the path, but you can experiment to find which it
really needs.

i noticed that you were running the programs through the rundig script.
you can modify it easily enough to set the variable in the script so that
it's available to htdig, etc., with the line:

"LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/local/lib:/usr/lib"

that'll take care of digging, but you'll run into big problems with
htsearch. apache can be configured to pass an environment to all programs
that are spawned with the following option in the config file:

"SetEnv LD_LIBRARY_PATH /usr/local/lib:/usr/lib"

good luck!
