[htdig] customizing output templates

For some reason, HTdig is not seeing my customized output template.

In my form I have the following (just one option for now):
Format: <select name=format>
<option value="normal">Normal
</select>

In my htdig.conf I have:
template_format: Normal normal /home/chris/htdig/common/normal.html

(I also tried using:
template_format: Normal normal ${common_dir}/normal.html

But it is still using the built-in defaults?
