Hold on, what's this? "ar: Command not found"
Do you have some sort of binutils? (either Solaris or GNU). You can't make
libraries without them, and it can't find them. Maybe you should add
/usr/ccs/bin to your path?
I know it builds on Solaris, I've done it myself...
