I believe there was, at one point, a length restriction to URLs. If
memory serves, this was removed in more recent versions of servers
and probably the HTTP specification as well (no, I haven't taken a
look at the HTTP/1.0 spec). I'm going on my memory of switching a few
CGIs from GET to POST to have them work.
