search_algorithm attribute? I'm assuming when you say "wildcard" you
mean "prefix matching," since something like pdf_p*er never has

It never has worked on the htdig.org site--the search_algoritms on
the site are set to be endings and synonyms. For any sort of
"wildcard" you'd need substring and/or prefix.
