I think it is more that several sales guys are trying to make some bucks
out of the term "open source" without taking care about what this thing
is all about. Many other people don't know much about open source
either.
Those only read in their manager magazines that it is a very good thing,
and so they become a primary target for the marketing folks.

PS: As long as there is no clear announcement about how to get the
source at some FTP server, I'd regard this as a fake or a publicity
gag.
