PHP4/Zend Beta 2 will be out soon and it is very stable. The documentation
is for both versions, PHP3 and PHP4. It is nearly complete:

1035 of 1318 functions documented (78% done, 22% remaining)

and of course the most functions are meaningless for a htsearch module.
Documentation (at least for PHP3) for the module interface can be found in
a German book about PHP. This chapter was written by Christian Cartus, who
build support for shared memory and the Informix module.

Maybe, ask Rasmus Lerdorf <rasmus@raleigh.ibm.com> who is working for both
now for a while.
