Did you try putting the lowercase into htdig/Retriever.cc? I think this
seems like the most obvious place to put it, and as you pointed out, it
makes sure everything is done the fewest times. So rather than seeing a
"Retrieved but not changed" message, the second time wouldn't even
happen.

I guess a little more verbosity might help. It's not obvious from your
example whether the file isn't indexed in the first place or whether
somehow it's getting clobbered later.
