Yes, I know - tons of tags are marked as deprecated in the 4.0 standard.
However, there are also many issues leading towards the use of those
tags:
- A lot of people still use "deprecated" browsers (about 30% according to
  our site stats).
- Even so-called HTML 4.0 browsers are not able to correctly render documents
  formatted in the 4.0 standard (I believe Opera is currently closest to that
  point)
- As far as I remember, <DIV> doesn't work correctly inside of a table
  column in Lynx

Stuff that has been marked "deprecated" in 4.0 mainly for the reason that
it should be substituted with CSS formatting, which obviously is better.
But as long as there are browsers out there which do not honor CSS or in-
correctly display CSS formatted documents - and sometimes even crash - I
feel very uncomfortable with strictly sticking to 4.0. But this is, of
course, my personal opinion ;-)
