On that note, I just added your changes (with some minor editing) to the
CVS tree. To test them out, define REGEX when compiling. I kept this "hack"
from the contributed code so people do not have to test this code if they
don't want.

The changes are still limited to the htdig limits and excludes variables.

If it seems stable enough, I'll take out the #ifdef's some time next week.
Then we can start moving other code over to regex as well. I'm guessing the
htsearch restrict/excludes would be high on people's lists. :-)
