I was wondering what that comment meant! It seems it first appeared in
3.1.0b1. A lot of the revisions then were put in by "turtle", including
this one:

// patches by Esa and Jesse to add BerkeleyDB and Prefix searching
So maybe turtle, Esa or Jesse can explain?
